abstract

traffic ingineering, as it applies to traditional voice networks, is determining the number of trunks necessary to carry a required amunt of voice calls during a period of time. For designers of a voice over X network, the goal is the property size the number of trunks.

although, there are 2 different types connections to be aware of: lines and trunks.lines allow telephone sets to be connected to telephone switches,

also, determine the purpose of the calls, for example: what were the calls for? were they used fr fax, modem, call center, 800 for customer service, 800 for voice mail, telecmmuters and so on if you know the amount of traffic generated and the Gos require, then you can calculate the number of trunks required to meet your needs, use the following simple equation to calculate traffic flow.A=C*T

A is traffic flow, Cis the number of calls orginating during a period of 1 hour, and Tis the average holding time of a call.it's important to note that C is the number of calls orginated;not carried.Typically, the information received form the carier or form the company's internet CDRs are in terms of carried traffic and not offered traffic, as is usually provided by PBXs.

Finally, We are comportable with the basic four assumptions.the only thing left to do is to calculate the number of trunks required by using formulas or tables.
